Ch Es attend AIChE Rocky Mountain Region Conference

A number of NMSU Chemical Engineering students traveled to Socorro to represent the department in the AIChE Rocky Mountain Regional Conference. Students enjoyed themselves on the beautiful NM Tech campus, and were both entertained and intrigued by the car competition. A conclusion was reached that the competition at this event was not particularly strong, and that NMSU would field a car and win next year's regional competition in Fort Collins, CO. Any Ch E students interested in helping design, build, test, and calibrate the NMSU car should attend the next general membership meeting.

NMSU students found the dodgeball competition to be a bit tougher, though it is duly noted that the refereeing was inconsistent. Two NMSU teams took part in the tournament, with members including Allison Galey, Jeff Peterson, Jorge Guerra, Keith Hendren, Omar Leon, Robert Mercer, Sam Waite, Shea Valdez, Veronica Madewell, and David Rockstraw. Despite Laura Nunez cheering from the bleachers with Veronica and Sam's little gtirls, both teams departed the double elimination event with a 1-2 record. Team members agreed to discuss the purchase of dodgeballs with AIChE funds, and the use of Rentfrow Gym to refine their skills such that a stronger showing can be made in next years' competition. If you are interested in playing AIChE Dodgeball, be sure to attend the next meeting.

University of Utah's car name "Louise" tears up the track.

University of Wyoming's car was lemon juice-powered, but ran like a lemon too.

NMT's fuelcell.com car puttered along to a good showing, but definitely lacked in originality and effort.

The BYU design was based on hydrogen peroxide decomposition.
